HEART: The heart is the seat of Love. Mercy is the fruit of this Love. The heart represents the hearts of Jesus and Mary. Christ is the image of God (Imago Dei). Sequel to our witnessing to the Mercy of God as Sons of Mary Mother of Mercy, we are to acquire a heart of Love and Mercy. It represents also the heart of Mary because she is the first witness to the Mercy of God.

FLAME OF FIRE: The flame of fire represents the flame of love. This is the primary motivator. Our Lady showed this ardent love through her FIAT. This very flame of love shows the zeal of each Son for the service of God, the Church and Humanity. The flame is also a sign of service; we burn ourselves out in prayer and sacrifice. Like the yeast that forms the host or the vine that forms the wine, so we burn ourselves for the salvation of others (cf. St. Polycarp of Syrmina), especially for the poor and the needy.

CROSS: The Cross stands for Discipleship: “if you wish to be a follower of mine, deny yourself and take up your cross each day, and follow me” (Cf. Lk 9:23). The Cross also projects the Spirit of our Congregation well expressed in the following scriptural texts:

  • Charity: In this we express the practical love of Christ” “There is no greater love than this, to give one’s life for one’s friends …” (Jn. 15: 13).
  • Humility: In humility the Sons participate in the gentle virtue of Christ, “Take my yoke upon you for I am gentle and humble of heart” (Matt. 11 :29).
  • Prayer: In this we are united to Christ and also share in his suffering, “could you not stay awake with me even an hour? Stay awake and pray…” (Matt. 26:40-41).
  • Penance and Abandonment to the will of God: In these virtues the Sons follow Christ in his total submission to the Father’s will “Father, if this cup will not pass away unless I drink it, thy will be done” (Matt. 26:39)

BACKGROUND AND LETTERS: The Letters SMMM superimposed on the cross and touching the heart, show the Sons’ acceptance of his call to religious life, a call to discipleship, like Mary’s Fiat. It also points to Sons’ acceptance of the Mission of Christ and that of his Church. They do this while incorporating in their apostolate the Spirit of the Congregation with the same kind of heart that Jesus and Mary have. The rays coming from the heart are rays of love radiating from the Sons’ hearts and reaching out to all mankind. Hence, while still in the world, the Mission of the Sons cuts across the globe as depicted in the circle at the background.

THE COLOURS: The dominating white colour is the symbol of Purity and Openness. The red colour is a symbol of Love and Martyrdom. Blue colour is the colour of our Blessed Virgin Mary, our Mother of Mercy.
