According to St. Pope John Paul II, “Perpetual profession is a public act by which a person commits himself totally and irrevocably to God, through the vows of chastity, poverty, and obedience, and dedicates his entire life to the service of God and the Church.”

This solemn act began with the celebration of the Mass with the Superior General, Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Christian Okwuru, SMMM as the Presiding Celebrant.

In his homily, with reference to the call of Abraham, the Superior General buttressed the total obedience of Abraham. He noted that, like Abraham, our 13 brothers through their perpetual profession are saying that they are ready and willing to do with obedience whatever the Congregation asks them to do and to go wherever they are sent to for mission. He however reminded them that the journey is indeed not an easy task but they should be consoled by the fact that the God who calls does not abandon the called.

Speaking on the life of poverty while dwelling on the account of the Acts of the Apostles, the homilist emphasized on the importance of community living as it concerns a religious while also stressing on the vows of poverty and chastity.

He remarked that vows of obedience, poverty and chastity are the hallmarks of religious life. He reminded them that they are called individually to the family of the Sons of Mary Mother of Mercy to be a brother and then a priest. As such, this call to service is an individual call. Hence, they are to shun any form of cliquism but always be on the path of truth and peace – for blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called sons/daughters of God.

With their solemn Act of Profession of Vows and Faith and confirmation by the Superior General, the SMMM Congregation increased in number with additional 13 finally Professed brothers.

After the Mass, the Perpetually Professed Brothers and priests receded the chapel for some group photographs.
