SMMM ANNUAL RETREAT 2025

In thanksgiving to God for the gift of Religious Life and the Priesthood, this year’s Annual Retreat which began on Sunday 30th March 2025 came to a successful end today being Friday 4th April 2025.

The Retreat was Moderated by Rt. Rev. Msgr. John Aniagwu (Vicar General Lagos Archdiocese) with emphasis on the theme: The Priest as Prophet; as Priest and as Shepherd.

In the course of the Retreat, the Moderator reflected on the meaning of the Priesthood as a vocation; Way of prayer; the identity of a priest and the function of a priest with Preaching or proclamation of the gospel as the fundamental function as well as the ministry of shepherd which is the Pastoral Ministry of the priest.
Thus, he remarked: “… as a Shepherd, the hallmark of the priesthood is compassion and Sympathy. Hence the priest must sympathize with a humanity that is sick and broken.”

Importantly, before the retreat blessing, the Superior General, Very Rev. Fr. Christian Okwuru, SMMM thanked the retreat Moderator for accepting to moderate the retreat. He applauded him for drilling the brothers in the theology of the priesthood and what it really means to be human drawing from his wealth of experiences as a formator in the seminary and as Parish Priest for many years.
He equally thanked the brothers for their presence and also for their active participation in the liturgical activities and for their private donations too.

On the other hand, Fr. Eugene Ejiofor, SMMM beautifully and succinctly articulated the sentiments of gratitude of the brothers.

After the Mass, there were group photographs. It was indeed a period of spiritual nourishment and uplifting as well as koinonia.

Long Live SMMM
